Too much material, lead to rushing thru.
Think faster than I speak
Rush through material,
Dont let audience think or respond
Thinking 12345, say 135
Talk slowly and clearly.
Skip a slide rather than rushing through it.
Have clear places where I am comfortable with, to slow down.
Consiously slow down at different places:
Figures: clearly state axes, what the curves are.
Definitions: 1/3 audience knows, 1/3 dont, 1/3 draw wrong conclusion. Take time to keep 2/3 up.
Others' work: have a clear concise description.
Results: put emphasize on important places.
Decide what to emphasize.
Use graphs to slow down:
Use of Nouns vs Pronouns:
- instead of saying "This graph shows that A is better than B",
-spell out what are the axes, what are the curves
- better performance means going in THIS direction.
- This lower corner shows THIS type of error
- going along this direction means improvement trade-off between THIS and THIS.
These are little devices that will force me to confront my most common mistakes.
